First-time Investor Guide

Description

Design of an investment guide that makes it easy for new investors to take the first step in investing.

Background

Bamboo is on a mission to provide individual and institutional African investors access to local and global markets. For over 4 years, Bamboo has been executing on this mission beginning with its pioneer product US stock trading, where it gives local investors access to buy fractional shares from the US Stock market.

The Problem

As more investors continued to join the platform, we were faced with one recurring problem expressed by investors: not knowing what to buy. From our survey, about 70% of new users on the app were also first time investors. They were beginning their investment journey with Bamboo and as such Bamboo was playing a very crucial role in setting them up for financial success. It was therefore paramount we solved the problem of not knowing what to buy.

After much consideration, we agreed to design a guide that allowed our first time investors to answer a set of questions to  determine their investment personality and goal. Then, in partnership with a third party provider, these first time investors receive a bucket of carefully selected stocks they can pick from. This way, the recommendations are customised and streamlined to fit the investor’s goal.
